If you’re reading this, you were meant to do something better with your life than you currently are, and you KNOW it! Deep down inside you know that you shouldn’t be going on the way that you are right now, but at the same time, there is also insecurity hacking away at your confidence and belief in yourself….
Sounds familiar?
That’s how I felt for years!
In my life, there have been many times when I felt so insecure about myself and my abilities that I just couldn’t get myself to take the actions I wanted. This completely wrecked my (already fragile) mindset at the time and nearly meant the end of my life!
If you find yourself making excuses and doubt your abilities, this post will help.
Watch the Video:
You will be able to read all about the 2-minute exercise that will help you overcome your excuses and limiting beliefs below. However, I would like to mention that my content creation is currently mostly focused on YouTube. I’d recommend to go over to YouTube and subscribe to my channel for more content to take your life to the next level!
On top of that, you can watch the video version of this post here:
If the video above isn’t working, you can watch the motivational story here.
My Motivational Gym Story
To start off, let me tell you a story:
The other day, I was at the gym.
Obviously, there are some of these 800-pound gorillas there that are just jacked as fuck! For me, that’s something to strive for. When I see someone like that walking around, I feel happy for that person and at the same time want to push myself even harder!
But I also saw something even more motivational!
There was this man in his late forties or early fifties.
Nothing special really…
Except for the fact that this guy only had 1 leg!
I don’t know his story, but the fact is that despite his handicap he still went to the gym. Not only that, but this dude was in great shape too! And to top it off, at one point I saw this guy doing leg presses!
Let that sink in for a moment…
Exactly!
What I Didn’t See at the Gym
Again, I don’t know the guy’s story but given his handicap, most people would say that it is completely justified for him to forget about his fitness goals and “adjust” to the situation by lowering his standards and expectations of himself.
But he still went!
And so, I want to draw your attention to the things I did not see at the gym that day.
For example:
- I did not see the people that were “too busy” to go
- Nor those who “didn’t have the energy” after work
- The people with low standards for themselves? Not in the gym…
- Those too afraid to start? Not there..
- And I absolutely didn’t spot the people who don’t see the value in going!
My point is this:
It would be reasonable for this 1-legged guy to say that his handicap is a valid reason for him not to go to the gym. But at the same time, there are a ton of people who don’t prioritize their own damn health!
If that guy can go hard at the gym, what is their excuse?!
There fucking is none!
The Unlikely Writer
Completely different topic, but very relevant:
Let’s say that you have dyslexia, but would love to be an author. Would it be fair to say that dyslexia makes it a lot harder to make that goal a reality? Would it be a valid excuse? Would it be reasonable for you to say “Well, it’s not gonna happen for me because I have dyslexia?”.
The answer to that is yes.
Meet The Great Gatsby
In case, you’re not familiar with it, The Great Gatsby is a book. Literary experts say it’s one of the best books of the 20th century. Must be a pretty good book I suppose. I’ll take their word for it, since I have never read it for myself.
You might have guessed where I’m going with this…
The author of that book, Scott Fitzgerald, was dyslexic!
Yet, he wrote one of the greatest books of last century!
Again, just like the guy in the gym, he had every right to say “Nah, not for me because of my disposition…”
But he didn’t!
The Empowering Truth About Life
Here’s something I can promise you:
I don’t know what goals you have set for yourself. Nor do I know the story you are telling yourself about why you cannot achieve that goal. However, what I DO know is that there are people out there who have already achieved the things you want to achieve…
While having come from a worse position than you’re in now!
Jay-Z grew up in a terrible neighborhood where most kids end up with problems in terms of drug abuse, criminality, end up murdered and so on. However, despite that situation he was in, he became one of the most famous rappers on the planet!
Your circumstances do not define you, your actions do!
The 2-Minute Exercise
So, here’s what I would like you to do after you have finished reading the rest of this article:
Open up a new tab in your browser and go to Google (or other search engine).
Type in the following:
Famous … that ….
Let me clarify that search:
On the first blank, fill in your goal. If you want to write a novel, enter “writers”. If you’re a DJ wanting to break through and become famous, fill that blank with “DJs” and so on. What you’re doing with this part is to look for examples of people that have already achieved your goals.
For the next blank, fill in your limitation.
Examples would be having dyslexia for writing a great novel.
It could be something like thinking that you’re never going to be rich because you were born poor. It could be saying to yourself that you’re too old to make it in business. It could be that you don’t believe you can be a CEO because you’re a woman.
Be honest with yourself and say what you think is holding you back!
Examples of this search:
- Famous writers that were dyslexic
- Great business people who started after they were 50
- Rich people that came from a poor family
- Top salespeople that are introverted
And so on.
Always Remember This!
Nobody is special!
Meaning that if other people have already achieved something, it is possible for you too! It is hard work, sacrifice, dedication, consistency and time that turns the average person into someone extraordinary in a certain discipline!
So, I’ll repeat the title of this article:
Why not YOU?!
Other people have done it before you!
Including people who start off from a worse position than you!
There is nothing holding you back, except you!
Hereby, I give you my full permission to go and pursue your dream 13893%!! However, take this moment of your day to get up and get mad! Get mad at your previous inaction and decide here and now that you will change things around!
Commit to reaching your goals!
No more excuses!
You can do this, IF you commit and dedicate yourself to your goal!
