Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.
– Napoleon Hill
The path to success is never a straight line, it’s a path with failures, mistakes, adversities and problems along the way. Well, actually I believe this is true for life itself.
I don’t know your situation but…
What I do know is that you’ve had some problems before in your life (haven’t we all), or you might be in a bit of a pickle right now.
And that’s okay…
AS LONG as you realize and act upon two important facts:
1. Failure is nothing more than a temporary defeat, it can be overcome and will only become permanent when you accept it and give up on fixing it.
2. I don’t care what situation you are in, you can get out of it and get the success you’ve always dreamed of. That’s it, period!
Take one of my mentors for example.
When David Wood got started with his business, he was living in a VAN and had to borrow money to even buy a laptop to get started with. Today however, the guy’s doing pretty well for himself making a substantial amount of money and living in a beautiful house in Costa Rica.
But I’m getting sidetracked…
What I’d like to share with you in this post is the story of the One-Armed judo player. And how this inspirational story can help you in turning your adversities into successes.
The Story of the One-Armed judo player
So once upon a time there was this kid, who wanted nothing more than to be a great judo player. It was his greatest desire and his biggest dream.
At a young his the boy got into a car accident, which ended up with the doctors having to amputate his left arm.
This accident would have discouraged most people who would then give up on their dream.
But not this kid!
What he did instead was something that I truly believe everyone should do, whether your goals are to make more money, get in better shape or whatever it is that you want to achieve.
He sought out a mentor.
Not far from where he lived he found his mentor, a guy who had been playing judo at the highest levels for almost his entire life, really one of the best in the world.
And the boy stood there before him in his presence.
“Could you please teach me how to become a great judo player like yourself? I will do whatever it takes”, the boy asked.
The master looked at him for a moment.
And after a few second he asks the boy this: “If I take you on as a student, are you going to do what I tell you to do, even if you can’t see why you should do it. And will you ”
The boy nodded. “I will”, he answered.
And so they started training together for days and days in a row, training every single day for at least 2-3 hours per day. It was a hard and grueling training.
Besides working on strenght and stamina, the master only taught the kid one single move.
After months and months of training the time came to put his new skills to the test in a real tournament.
The boy was naturally nervous.
One of the main reasons he was nervous was because of the fact that he only knew a how to use a single move.
So he asked his mentor:
“Do you really think I’m ready for this? After all, I’ve only got one arm and besides that you’ve only taught me one single move. How am I supposed to win?”
Remember what I’ve asked you when I took you on as a student? The mentor replied?
Please have some faith, get in there and use the move that I’ve taught you.
The boy was still puzzled.
But even though he wasn’t completely sure about it, he decided to trust his mentor and get into the ring and give it his all.
Then came the time for round 1.
He went into the ring, and used his one technique against his opponent (who had both his arms), and to his own surprise he won with ease.
The second round came…
Again he went in, and he easily won against that opponent as well.
This path continued all the way until he finally reached the finals.
He again went into the ring, used his move, won the fight and he was being crowned as the tournament’s champion!
He was astonished.
He went back to his master, still somewhat shocked about what happened, and asked him how he was able to win so easily.
His mentor just grinned.
That one move I taught you? There’s only one way to counter that move…
… for which your opponent has to grab your left arm.
And that is how the young boy took his first major step in accomplishing his dream to be the very best, like no one ever was.
Lessons for Success to take away
So let’s talk about the lessons that you can take away from the story I’ve just told you.
1. All obstacles can be overcome.
No matter what your current situation is, or how bad things may seem to be at a certain time, you absolutely CAN make it better and improve your situation!
Never give up on your dreams!
Am I saying it’s going to be easy to accomplish your dreams? No of course not, don’t be silly.
It’s going to take hard work on your end, but your situation right now doesn’t have the be your situation next year, just work on changing it!
2. Get a mentor
Like I’ve kinda touched upon earlier, the boy in the story did something that was incredibly smart.
He found himself a mentor.
Somebody who has been there and done that, somebody who could take his vast experience and condense that knowledge in skill into just a couple of months of training.
Could he have done it himself? Maybe, maybe not…
But there’s no denying that a mentor can help you achieve your goals way faster than you could alone.
If you’re trying to build your business online, I’d highly recommend you take advantage of the training and the Ignition Coaching Program available within the Elite Marketing Pro system.
Couldn’t recommend these guys enough!
3. Master one skill at a time
Just like the master only taught the boy 1 single technique, you should focus your attention on 1 or a few things at most.
There’s so many shiny objects:
There’s Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, blogging, PPC, PPV, solo ads, SEO, Facebook, Twitter, and that’s just to name a FEW of the available marketing channels.
Don’t try to master all of them at the same time.
What would have happened if the boy had been taught dozens of moves at the same time?
He would be overwhelmed.
He’d have gotten into the ring and used a combination of moves that could easily be countered and would not have gotten him the results he wanted.
It’s better to focus.
Getting started with any strategy is usually pretty easy, but to do things effectively takes a lot more time and effort.
Focus on one thing until you’re getting good results, and THEN spread out from there.
4. Think about the stories you could tell
If you think your success is just about yourself, your family and your loved ones… think again.
It’s what I used to think as well.
But your success goes way further than that.
Allow me to tell the story of one of my mentors real quick:
David Wood was at point living in his van, driving from one place to another to avoid getting found by the police and getting fined for sleeping in his van. Yes, you could actually get fined for that, and David did in fact get a ticket for his last money.
But then he decided: That’s it!
He made a decision that he wasn’t going to live like this anymore. And that’s when his entire life changed. He actually had to borrow money to buy a cheap (and crappy) laptop to get himself started with his online business.
Fast forward a couple of months:
Through the power of blogging, he was able to build his business up to about 5 figures per month and up to date he’s made millions in network marketing!
Disclaimer: I think it needs to be said (even though so few people do it) that Dave’s results are NOT typical and that your results depend on your own efforts and is NOT guaranteed.
Anyway, having said that…
Not only did he become situation despite his situation not being that pleasant when you got started, but what a story it is!
Think about this:
If you’re in a less than positive situation right now, think about all the people that you could inspire with your story when you break through.
There will be people hearing your story who will be like: If he (or she) can do it, so can I!
Your success and your story won’t be just about you anymore, so start thinking about the people you can impact and help!
That will only ever happen when you take action, you put your foot down and you really decide you’re gonna do it.
That’s it, period!
There’s a price to not making that definite decision. The cost?
When you sit on the sidelines, the price you will have to pay is watching somebody else achieve what it is that YOU want to achieve.
may have been in a situation like you were in before, maybe even something worse. But where you didn’t take action, that person made the decision to make it happen despite his situation.
Whereas you may had lead that limiting belief stop you.
If nothing else, please, for crying out loud…
If there is one thing that I could bash right into your mind (theoretically speaking of course) it would be this:
YOU CAN DO THIS!
Don’t let any limiting beliefs stop you! Don’t let your current position stop you from moving towards where you do want to go! Take action, because that’s the only way you’ll ever change your results!
I’m not even sorry about the abuse of exclamation marks above…
I’m really serious about this, so I want you to actually go out there and make something happen, because that’s the only way you’re gonna see results.
To your success,
